Tented village

Enjoy your rest in the tented village

The tented village will be waiting for every rider when they complete the day’s ride. We’d like to make this a great place to relax, recover and share the stories of the day.  The village will remain in the beautiful Glanusk Estate for the duration of the event.

We’re going to make it as easy as possible for you. We know you’ll have enough on your plate focussing on the day’s ride ahead.

The tented village will make use of the local community where possible.  A few of the Brecon Beacons local communities offering their exceptional support so far are Crickhowell, Brecon and Talybont on Usk. Visit http://www.breconbeacons.org/ for more information on what these beautiful places have to offer.

Accommodation details

In 2012 riders have the opportunity to bring their own tent or camper van - we have ample space to facilitate both.  If you don’t have either available then Bearded Man will provide a 3 man tent (per rider) at no extra cost.  When you are registering as either a rider, marshal or volunteer, please let us know if you will be bringing your own tent or camper van to the event (there is an option to do so).

If you do decide to use the 3 man Eiger tents (1 per rider), they will be erected and dismantled by Bearded Man’s volunteers  - sign up to become part of the team, we’re looking for volunteers.

Riders are required to bring their own towels, sleeping mattress, pillow and sleeping bag, suitable for temperatures in South Wales in June. Keep an eye on the weather forecast here http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/2123.

We’ve got more details on the riding and camping equipment you’ll need in Rider info.

Catering

Breakfasts and dinners are all inclusive from Friday evening to Sunday morning and a sample menu of the culinary delights (as supplied in 2011)  is available to see on the Bearded Man Blog now.  We will provide 2012 menu options closer to the event start.

Lunches will be at your own cost and good nutritional food for post event recovery will be available at the event HQ and supplied by either local communities or other outside vendors.

Facilities

The tented village will have the following facilities available:

  • a secure place to store your bike.  In 2012 we will have fencing and a security guard patrolling at night time, however we strongly urge riders to take exceptional precautions as theft of bicycle’s is becoming a common occurrence at cycling events.
  • a bike wash at the end of each day.
  • toilets and hot showers.
  • car parking for riders and companions for the duration of the event.
  • bike maintenance provided by a professional bike servicing team of mechanics. Any maintenance will be charged directly to the rider at the time of repair at standard market rates. Please note that bikes will only be serviced if clean.
  • a massage can be booked after each stage and will be supplied by professional sports masseuses. Book your massages when you register to avoid disappointment and to take advantage of the early booking discount.  Massages may be available on a drop-in basis at the end of each stage but availability cannot be guaranteed.
